History of Tubi TV
Tubi tv platform was launched by Farhad Massoudi and Thomas Ahn Hicks of AdRise, in San Francisco as a free service.
Both the investors In May 2017, raised 20 million US$ in funding from Jump Capital, Danhua Capital, Cota Capital, and Foundation Capital. In June 2019, Tubi had over 20 million active monthly users, and later in September, the company had stated that users had played 132 million hours of content on their platform. In September 2020, there were 33 million active users.
Sandy Grushow, former Fox TV chairman, is an advisory board member. Mark Amin, the former vice-chairman of Lionsgate is an investor. The principal investors were Foundation Capital, Bobby Yazdani, Zod Nazem, Streamlined Ventures, and SGH Capital.
In February 2019, Tubi signed a deal with NBCUniversal, which included 400 TV episodes and films to be available on tubi tv. And later In April 2020, Tubi was acquired by Fox Corporation for $440 million. On September 25, Tubi became available on Vizio Smartcast. On October 21, Tubi launched Tubi Kids, a dedicated hub for the streamer’s children-centric content via Roku and supported devices.
Tubi officially launched in Australia on 1 September 2019. In January 2020, Tubi expanded in Mexico, in a partnership with TV Azteca.
