How to Make Remote Working Convenient for Employees

Work from HomeIt’s been a year since the COVID-19 pandemic locked the majority of us at homes and changed our lifestyles. Everything moved online starting from shopping to birthday celebrations, and for sure work. Starting from the beginning of 2020, 88% of employers transferred their operations online and encouraged their teams to shift remote. It was a huge challenge for the employers as they needed to quickly make it possible and for employees, as the adaptation to work from home was not easy especially for those who haven’t a similar experience beforehand.

So if you have a remote team or just plant the transition, here are 4 recommendations on how you can make the process convenient for your employees

Simplify the сonnection

The most popular issue remote workers complain about is slow and inconvenient access to internal files, thus their sharing and collaboration is not effective. Now, the Remote desktop protocol (or RDP) along with VPN that is often used for these purposes can be left in the past. There are more effective ways to provide the access to the remote working environment like adopting a cloud solution that allows secure and fast remote file server connection. The majority of them rely on secure HTTPS connection and allow mapping with the existing Active Directory or other user control systems for proper authentication and granting access to files.

Organize a corporate messenger

If you want to achieve productive communication, you need to pay attention to the organization of your corporate messengers. If there are no rules, too many channels to monitor, and chat flooding, it will be easy for your employees to lose track of the projects they are dealing with or miss some important updates. While it’s just annoying when you all are in the office, it’s critical under remote circumstances. To combat miscommunication develop the policy of obligatory presence in the general communication channels and create separate chat rooms for projects inviting only people engaged into these projects to have everything in one place. Don’t forget to dedicate some space for jokes, and informal communication though to minimize the noise in working chats.

Create a remote work knowledge base

Most of the companies have a knowledge base related to the work policies, procedures, and other useful things. Enhance it by adding a doc with instructions and quick links to other articles for the most common questions related to remote work. This will help to simplify troubleshooting of technical problems related to work from home that occur from time to time like broken connection, configuration errors, and proper setup of the working tools. If you have a system admin, make sure to create a channel in a messenger or space in the project management tool where your employees could report their issues and receive quick help.

Mind the mental state

It wasn’t emotionally easy to go remote and some people are struggling because of the isolation if they live alone or just miss small talks in the office kitchen. Make sure to dedicate several minutes during every one-on-one session with your employees to ask how they feel, and if they have any difficulties related to the working mode. Sometimes it appears that people just need some guidance on how to set up some tools but are shy to come to you or have some family issues that prevent them from fully emerging into work. Such conversations will give you a hint of how you can do better as a manager, and show your employees that you really care positively impacting their morale.

The remote work gained its massive popularity through the last year and it’s not going anytime soon. It’s natural that the companies developing digital products monitor the market demand and constantly come up with better tools and software to make work from home even more simplified. So in the future, we can expect new technologies that will make our lives easier and take the remote home to a new level.
